One of the problems being involved with lacrosse at so many levels is that once it is over, I feel like an addict (take your pick which kind). that is left yearning for more.
The Mann Cup is slated to start on Wednesday September 7th, from Langley, British Columbia. This year should be quite interesting as the “rebuilding” Brampton Excelsiors will face the Langley Thunder for the Canadian Championship. For the B.C. rep in the Mann Cup, it is the first time since 1977 that New Westminster, Victoria, or Coquitlam has not been involved. And believe me, over the past week I have thought of every way possible to get out there to see it. I’ve checked planes, I’ve checked trains, hell I’ve even looked at automobiles. And I’ve had offers from some great folks in B.C. to stay with them while out there. I truly appreciate that offer by the way. It proves, yet again that lacrosse people are the absolute greatest on earth.
But at the end of the day, I will be sitting here watching from afar, and in the next week or two it will all be over for another summer season. But then what? What will I do then? Will I read? Hardly. Hockey? Nah, I’m not interested in that much any more. What about some online poker? Yeah maybe, as I do enjoy doing that. But what will I do each and every night to take the place of the game I spent all summer watching, playing, commentating on, and cheering? It’s gonna be a long off season.
The only thing that I guess is going to get me through is NFL Football, which starts this Thursday, and LITG Co-Ed lacrosse (also starting Thursday). And I’ll check out the NLL when it gets going.
I guess all is not lost. When the games are not taking place in any summer arenas, you must find other options! Fortunately, there are some.
