The offensive guns for the Redmen were on display tonight as the home side defeated their cross-region rivals by a final of 15-4. Shawn Williams was involved in the scoring on the first seven goals for the Redmen and ended the night with 11 points. Rookie Kiel Matisz also showed his prowess with six points. John Cheeseborough was in net for the win. The Redmen also welcomed draft picks Geoff McNulty and Steve Priolo to the line-up tonight.
The Redmen won the first period by 4-1, jumping out to a 2-0 lead before the Rock countered. The Redmen scored the first two goals of the middle frame as well before the Rock found the net but then the hosts went on a 5-0 run including a shorthanded marker with 13 seconds on the clock for an 11-2 lead after forty minutes.
The Redmen built a 15-2 lead before the Rock scored the last two goals on the night strictly to salvage some pride. The Rock line-up featured three former Redmen in Garett Kikot, Jason Mainer and Dilan Graham, with Mike McKay and Paul St John behind the bench.
Mark Gardonio and Jason Wiswell officiated and called 15 penalty minutes on the Redmen and 11 on the Rock. Ian Crashley and Ryan Tower had a fight in the middle stanza that saw them each get a five-minute major. The Redmen scored twice on the power play and twice on the man down while Ajax scored their first two with the man advantage.
The Redmen travel to Six Nations on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m matinee and then to Brampton on Thursday June 9, 2011 at 8:00 pm before a return home on Friday June 10, 2011 at 8 pm to host the Chiefs.
