Knighthawks Kill Minnesota’s Buzz, Win 12-11

(Rochester, April 9)… The Rochester Knighthawks used a gutty performance tonight to defeat the Minnesota Swarm 12-11 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. With the win, the Knighthawks (6-7) moved into a three-way tie for third place in the East Division.

Bobby McBride scored the game-winner with just 1:46 to play to deny the Minnesota Swarm the chance at a come-from-behind victory. The win ended Rochester’s four-game losing streak, but extended the Swarm’s losing streak to three games.

John Grant Jr. (3+3) and Shawn Williams (2+3) led the Knighthawks offense, while Scott Evans (2+1) and Craig Point (1+2) added three points apiece. Pat O’Toole earned the win in goal in a 32-save effort. The Swarm received six points from Callum Crawford (2+4) and Aaron Wilson (3+3). Goalie Nick Patterson stopped 32 shots in the home loss.

Rochester erased two early one-goal leads with a 3-0 run at the end of the first quarter, which carried into the second quarter. Crawford scored two goals in the second to keep the deficit just two. His second goal set the team record for points in a season with 77.

Minnesota battled back from two three-goal deficits to cut the lead to 8-7 at the end of third quarters. Sean Pollock’s goal at 9:21 trimmed the lead down to one. Scott Evans, however, had other ideas. In his first game since March 13th, Evans notched two straight goals to give the K-Hawks an 11-8 lead early in the fourth quarter. Evans first goal was just 35 seconds after Grant gave Rochester a 9-7 advantage.

Minnesota chipped away at the lead and closed the gap with goals by Wilson and Tim Campeau. Wilson then evened the game at 11 with his third of the night at 12:39. Before the 9,193 fans could get excited about the Swarm tying the game up, McBride broke past two defenders and beat Patterson for the 12th Rochester goal. The marker was just 35 seconds after the Wilson goal. Pollock (2+1) had a chance to tie the game but missed the net in the final seconds.

On Saturday, Rochester will host the Philadelphia Wings at 7:35 p.m. on Hall of Fame Night. The Knighthawks will honor the Hall of Fame Class of 2010, which features past General Manager Jody Gage and former players Paul Gait and Randy Mearns. The K-Hawks will also hand out their team awards to honor the best performances of the season.

Fans can purchase the “Hawk Pack” for Saturday’s game. It includes four 200-end tickets, four sodas, four hot dogs and four T-shirts for just $72.
