The Greater Washington Sports Alliance Announces the 7th Annual Baltimore/Washington High School Watch List

Washington, D.C. – For the past seven years, The Tewaaraton Award has proudly named a “High School All-Tewaaraton Team” comprised of men and women from the Baltimore/Washington Region. The watch list nominees are screened and selected by Selection Committees comprised of regional high school coaches. Between now and the June 3rd Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, these students are assessed for their performance on the field. At the end of May, a team of 12 men and 12 women are invited to attend the Tewaaraton Banquet and they are presented with the “High School All-Tewaaraton Team” plaque.

“It is inspiring to know that lacrosse touches so many young individuals in our communities. These are the players of tomorrow, many of which I believe we will see in a few short years contending for the ultimate award in lacrosse – the Tewaaraton. I look forward to the ceremony in June where we will to present the “High School All-Tewaaraton Team” plaque to these promising young individuals,” stated Robert Sweeney, President of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance.

The award will be presented on June 3rd, 2010 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

 About The Tewaaraton Award:

The Tewaaraton Award was formally established in August of 2000 with the inaugural presentation talking place at The University Club of Washington DC in June of 2001. Honoring the Native American heritage, the Tewaaraton Trophy symbolizes lacrosse’s centuries-old roots in Native American history. Tradition dictates that each year the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy: the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, and the Tuscarora. Today, the Tewaaraton Trophy is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the nation’s top male and female collegiate lacrosse player for their extraordinary achievements on the field.
