Answers Elude Coaches as Redmen Stumble Again

Whitby, ON

A week ago the Redmen travelled to Brampton to take on the Excelsiors the day after a 15-12 OT loss at home to Kitchener Waterloo. They lost that game at the Powerade Centre 12-5; tonight the Excelsiors returned the favour of a visit. On a night that the Redmen celebrated Clarington and West Durham Minor Lacrosse, the defending Mann Cup champs showed why they remain the team to beat with a 12-4 win. The win improves the Excelsiors to 6-4; good for a four way tie for first overall with Peterborough, Six Nations and St Regis (Six Nations has two games in hand and Peterborough has one game in hand).  The Redmen on the other hand are at 2-9, and are now tied for the basement with Barrie; the Lakeshores defeated the Kodiaks 11-5 tonight in KW and have a record of 2-7 with two games in hand. One of the two Redmen wins came against the Lakeshores and the Redmen visit the Holly Community Centre next Thursday July 2, 2009 at 8 pm for what will be an extremely important contest.

The Excelsiors were lead by Josh Sanderson with four goals and three assists, while the Redmen had singles to Hutchins, Williams, Hoar and Griffiths. Joel Weber played in net for the Redmen while Troy Cordingley went with Anthony Cosmo. The visitors scored four times in each period while the Redmen were only able to counter once in the opening frame and three times in the second. The goal by Stephen Hoar came off a pretty passing play with fellow veterans Shawn Williams and Derek Suddons.

Bill Fox and Scott McCulloch called an even game with four minors to each team. The Excelsiors scored twice with the man advantage while the Redmen only found the back of the net once on the power play.

Kyle Buchanan and David Brown made their debuts on the Redmen while Bill Greer had to use the visitors’ door for the first time as the two teams made a deal last week that involved these three players. Buchanan ended up on the score sheet with an assist on Williams’ goal.

Next home game for the Redmen is Wednesday July 1, 2009 at 8 pm vs Peterborough.
