The Major Series Lacrosse Season is just eight days old and the Brooklin Redmen and the St Regis Indians have already played three times. It will be a case of good riddance as the Redmen dropped another one to the Indians this time by a final of 11-8 to go with the 11-8 and 13-8 losses last weekend in St Regis to start the season. The loss drops the Redmen to 1-4 and improves the Indians to 4-0.

This night is known as Scott McMichael Minor Lacrosse Night to honour the memory of # 23 and celebrate the growth of the sport in the Region.

The Redmen were happy to have Bob McBride back in the line-up and his presence was felt in the transition game as he scored the opening goal of the game. The Indians rallied with three straight for the 3-1 lead before the teams traded goals and it was 4-3 for St Regis after one. Mike Miron got the nod in the Redmen net while Angus Goodleaf went for the Indians.

The Redmen killed off a five on three in the first while scoring one power play. On the other side, St Regis scored one power play and one short handed in the first twenty.

Bill Fox and Mark Gardonio officiated and on the night called a total of 64 minutes in penalties, 19 to the Redmen and 45 to St Regis. The majority of those minutes went to Steve Toll who returned to IPSC in a St Regis uniform and gave Fox an earful to the point that Fox decided that Toll would get fresh hot water in the locker room ahead of his teammates.

The home side won the second frame by a score of 4-3 and almost made it five as Wes McDonald rung one off the goalpost with 10 seconds to go in the first while short-handed. Score after two was 7-7 and the Redmen were hoping that St Regis would tire knowing that they played in Barrie to an 11-10 win just 24 hours prior.

Mike Thompson went in net for the third in favour of Goodleaf who had a nasty cut on his chin. The Indians struck first just 33 seconds in to the final frame. The Redmen meanwhile, could only muster one goal as Steve Hutchins scored a nice acrobatic goal unassisted with five minutes off the clock. Ianucci scored two of his five goals in the final period and Mike Accursi scored one for the 4-1 third period win and 11-8 final in favour of St Regis. The Redmen scored four on the power play and one short handed while the Indians scored three on the power play and twice short handed.

The Redmen will practice tomorrow night before facing the Six Nations Chiefs at IPSC on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at 8:00 pm.
