Portland Defeats Boston 9-8 in OT

Portland LumberjaxBOSTON, MA – The Portland LumberJax defeated the Boston Blazers 9-8 in overtime at TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday night. Lumberjax forward Peter Morgan beat Blazers goaltender Anthony Cosmo 1:13 into overtime for his first game winning goal of the season. With the victory, Portland improves to 3-3 while Boston drops to 2-3.

Portland led 6-5 after three quarters. To open the fourth quarter, the Blazers Dan Dawson and Greg Downing were in on all three goals as Boston took an 8-6 lead with 8:00 minutes left in regulation. Portland would answer with back-to-back goals from Matt Brown and Jacobs coming just 15 seconds apart to tie the game 8-8 with 3:50 remaining.

Leading the Portland offense was Morgan who recorded his second hat trick of the season. Ryan Powell contributed with four assists while Matt Brown (2G, 1A) and Brodie Merrill (1G, 2A) both chipped in with three points each in the victory. Merrill led all players with 11 loose balls.

Dawson led the Boston offense finishing with three goals and two assists. Brendan Thenhaus had two goals and two assists while Downing finished with a season high four assists.

Portland’s Matt Disher recorded a game high 46 saves for the victory. Cosmo finished with 38 saves in the loss.
