Remember, These Are Only Bantams B.C. – Iroquois

Possibly the most anticipated game so far at the Festival took place tonight on Pad 1 at Iroquois Park in Whitby.  Two undefeated teams so far in this tournament were at it, so something had to give.  Well it lived up to everything everyone said it would be.  In the end, Team Iroquois defeated Team BC by a score of 6-5. The game was as close as the score.

From the start of the game and throughout the entire 45 minutes, I kept thinking two things; 1) why couldn’t this game be stop time and 2) it is incredible that these are only Bantam aged players.  This was fast paced, clean, and a good old fashion go hard for 45 minutes type of game. Two true Warriors of the game, Seth Oakes of Iroquois and Terrell Davis of BC gave each other a pat at the final buzzer respecting each others effort on the night.

Qunitan Martin (Iroquois) and Steve Mayervich (BC) got the respective starts for their Province and both played very well.  The scoring opened when Lucas Smith found himself alone in front of Mayervich with the time to throw a couple fakes and deposit the ball over his shoulder.  Seth Oakes scored twice for Iroquois, as did Chris George (both players wiring one from their respective sides of the floor from just outside the dots).  Brandon Montour scored the eventual game winner on a cross crease pass while Iroquois was on a Power Play.

For BC, Jordan Cunningham scored twice, his first on a great cut to the net, that Davis threaded a needle so to speak to get him the ball at top speed.  Cunningham’s second was a solo effort when he intercepted a pass in his own end and ran the floor to beat Martin top right.  Cole Shafer, Dalton Sward (on an almost identical play to Cunninham’s second goal), and Griffen LeClaire also scored for BC.

The win allows Team Iroquois to now rest tomorrow and prepare for the Saturday afternoon Gold Medal Final, while BC now must face Team Ontario tomorrow morning to see who will play against Iroquois in that game.
