Six Nations Rebels Junior B LacrosseWindsor AKO FratmenOHSWEKEN – The defending J. A. MacDonald Trophy (Ontario Jr B champions) winners, the Six Nations Rebels defeated the Windsor AKO Fratmen 10-7 to grab a 2-1 lead of the Best-of-Five Western Conference Semi-Final at the Gaylord Powless Arena before 650 hot and humid fans Friday night.

The winner of this series will play Elora Mohawks in the Western Conference Final.
Both teams combined for 99 minutes in penalties on the night which kept referees Tom Moxam and Kevin Caplice busy especially in the third period for the second game of the three played to date.

Randy Johnson got the start for the Rebels and Brendan Stevenson was in goal for the AKO Fratmen.

Neither team was to get a shot on goal until four minutes had past when Rebels defender, Elijah Johns rang a shot off the post, however it was the AKO Fratmen Jeff Rivait opened the scoring 5:25 into the contest. Rebels Jordan Johnson evened the score at 11:15 on a breakaway. Jeremy Johns gave the Rebels the lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night and Alex Kedoh Hill made it 3-1 with a shorthanded effort in the final minute of the first. Six Nations outshot Windsor 14-12 in the opening period.

The second stanza saw Windsor’s Travis Boomer close the gap 90 seconds into the session. Rebels Cody Johnson, Kraig Maracle and Stu Hill would put the home team up 6-2 by the midway point. Again the AKO Fratmen Andrew Ryckman and Devin Humphrey countered with a pair of goal in the final two minutes to close the score to 6-4. But the Rebels responded after a called timeout to set up Marty Hill with three seconds left in the second period for a 7-4 Six Nations lead after 40 minutes. The Rebels outshot the AKO Fratmen 18-16 in the middle stanza.

Rebels’ Jeremy Johns scored his second of the contest and Clark Robinson made it a 9-4 score before the third period was five minutes old. Windsor Brett Hickey and Rebels captain Stu Hill traded markers to only to have D. J. Turner and Humphrey (2nd of the game) round out the scoring in the fight-filled third period.

Six Nations outshot Windsor 13-12 in the final frame and 45-40 for the entire contest.
Rebels were led by captain; Stu Hill (2G, 1A) and Alex Kedoh Hill (1G, 2A) with three points on the night. Jeremy Johns (2G), Cody Johnson (1G, 1A), Kraig Maracle (1G, 1A), Jordan Johnson (1G, 1A), Darryl Hill (2A) and goalie Randy Johnson (2A). Single Rebels points were by Marty Hill (1G), Clark Robinson (1G), Andy Jamieson (1A), Hawenaedas Thomas (1A) and Chancy Johnson (1A).

The AKO Fratmen were led by Devin Humphrey (2G, 1A) and Andrew Sokolowski (3A) with three-points. Andrew Ryckman (1G, 1A), Brett Hickey (1G, 1A) and D. J. Turner (1G, 1A) contributed two-points apiece. Single AKO Fratmen points were by Jeff Rivait (1G), Travis Boomer (1G), Drew St. Louis (1A), C. J. Ziraida (1A), Garrison Matte (1A) and Adam Moore (1A).

Game four of the Best-of-Five Western Conference Semi-Final goes Sunday, July 20th at the Forest Glade Arena in Windsor set for a 7:00 p.m. start.

If necessary, game five will be Monday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena for an 8:00 p.m.
