Six Nations Rebels Junior B LacrosseWindsor AKO FratmenThe defending J. A. MacDonald Trophy (Ontario Jr B champions) winners, the Six Nations Rebels defeated the Windsor AKO Fratmen 9-4 in the opening penalty filled game of the Best-of-Five Western Conference Semi-Final at the Gaylord Powless Arena before 500 fans Friday night.

Both teams combined for 152 minutes in penalties on the night which kept referees Ryan Fowler and John Sutcliffe busy especially in the third period.

The Rebels have now won their 42nd game in a row dating back to a Western Conference semi-final loss to Owen Sound Rams on July 15, 2007 during the OLA Jr B playoffs.

Randy Johnson got the start for the Rebels and Erik McLaren was in goal for the AKO Fratmen.
The Rebels captain, Stu Hill opened the first period with a pair by the midway point and Cody Johnson netted a power play goal at the 12-minute mark. The AKO Fratmen Andrew Sokolowski was able to fire a shot past Rebels goalie, Johnson just 43 seconds after the Johnson marker for a 3-1 Rebels lead after 20 minutes. Windsor outshot the Rebels 15-13 in the opening period.

The second stanza saw the Rebels pot another three-spot on goals Marty Hill, Stu Hill (hat-trick) and Russell Longboat by the 11:49 mark for a 6-1 lead. This prompted Windsor coach, Greg Ducharme to switch starter, Erik McLaren for Brendan Stevenson. The AKO Fratmen responded to the switch by scoring the next goal just 33 seconds after the goalie change. However Rebels Kraig Maracle would fire home his first goal of the night 56 seconds later and added his second of the night with 89 second left in the second period. Windsor outshot the Rebels 16-15 in the middle stanza.

In the third, Kraig Maracle scored the lone Rebels shorthanded marker with a little over five minutes remaining for his hat-trick goal. While the AKO Fratmen got goals from Sokolowski (2nd of the game) and Ziraida (2nd of the game) in the final two minutes of the contest. Windsor outshot the Rebels 12-9 in the final frame and 43-37 for the entire contest but not on the scoreboard.

Rebels were led by captain; Stu Hill with six points (3G, 3A) on the night. Kraig Maracle (3G, 1A) and Marty Hill (1G, 3A) had four-points each. Cody Johnson contributed three points (1G, 2A). Jordan Johnson and goalie Randy Johnson added a pair of assists apiece. Single Rebels points were by Russell Longboat (1G), Peter Hill (1A), Ryley Johnson (1A) and Jesse Sault (1A).

The AKO Fratmen were led by Andrew Sokolowski (2G), C. J. Ziraida (2G) and Cory Burchell (2A) each. Single Windsor points were by Mike Rivait (1A) and Devin Humphrey (1A).

Game two of the Best-of-Five Western Conference Semi-Final goes Tuesday, July 15th at the Forest Glade Arena in Windsor set for an 8:00 p.m. start.
