Redmen Drop to 1-3 After Disappointing Loss

Barrie, ON

Peter Vipond said after the game tonight that Barrie was hungrier, showed more hustle and were able to corral loose balls in both the offensive end as well as the defensive end. He saw that as the difference, ball control he said is critical. The Redmen have now dropped to 1-3 on the season.

The Redmen went with Matt Roik and for the first time this season, they did not make a goalie change in the game, Lindsay Sanderson went with Mike Attwood in the Lakeshores net. Last season, Sanderson and Wayne Colley stood side by side on the Barrie bench tonight they were opposing coaches. Frank Lawrence and Mark Gardonio were the officials.

The Lakeshores are playing this season at the newly opened Holly Community Centre in South Barrie, just 10 minutes west of the Molson Centre. The H.C.C. has twin pads with 350 seats in each and a pool; an interesting feature is glass all around and a workout facility that overlooks the playing surface.

The home team got their fans onside with a pair of goals to make it 2-0 at the halfway mark. Scott Campbell continued his offensive play to put the Redmen on the board and by the conclusion of the first twenty it was 4-3 for Barrie.

The Lakeshores scored the first two of the second one at 3:18 and one at 3:58 to open the lead. Geoff Griffiths scored a great goal at 8:45 with Marc Jackson off for interference. Griffiths was ragging the ball in the Lakeshores end, two men were on him along the left boards, he was able to squeeze out, maintained the ball and deposited it behind Attwood to close the gap. Barrie outscored the Redmen 4-3 again for an 8-6 leaf after two periods.
