Rock Swarm Minnesota in Oshawa Exhibition Game

Toronto - MinnesotaThe Toronto Rock played their second exhibition game in as many seasons in Oshawa, Ontario last night against the Minnesota Swarm. Toronto won the game by a score of 17-12.

Toronto came out swinging early as Ryan Benesch took a very nice pass from Blaine Manning, and put a sweet move on Minnesota goalie Nick Patterson just 25 seconds into the game. The 2007 NLL rookie of the year, who received a plaque prior to the game, would score the first three Rock goals and end up with 6 on the night. Rookie Mark Scherman would score 3 times, while newcomer Kasey Beirnes scored twice.

For the Swarm, newcomer Andy Secore scored 4, as did rookie Craig Point, who looked good. The game was at times quite physical with a few players squaring off to settle some disputes.

It was a sparse crowd in Oshawa, I would guess in the range of 2000-2500.  It might have been because of the weather. But I’m thinking it might have also been the $29.00 ticket price for an adult, and $20.00 ticket price for kids. There were many empty seats at G.M. Place that I believe could have been filled if some sort of ticket deal could have been offered to local associations.

Toronto - MinnesotaWith well over 3000 kids playing in Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, and neighboring Peterborough, it could have been a great night with a packed house.  Those that were there, I’m sure had a good time, but it is unfortunate that more could not have been there.

  1. I think advertising, or lack thereof was also an issue. I saw only 1 ad for it in the This Week and that was a week before the game. Had there been more ads and perhaps even an article in the Friday edition leading I’m guessing the other seats would have had people in there. As I’m sure you are aware, marketing does not happen itself.

  2. Good looking crew behind the net with the red wigs on!!
