Arrows Take Game 1 In A Convincing 13-5 Win


The Six Nations Arrows Express were better prepared after their hard fought series with Burlington as they opened up their second round of the playoffs with a convincing 13 – 5 win over Whitby at the ILA on Sunday night. Whitby who finished 4th in the regular season had defeated last year’s Minto Cup champs the Peterboro Lakers in their first round of playoffs.

Whitby did jump out to an early 2 – 0 lead but then the Arrows Express scored five straight goals as they held a 5 – 2 lead after the first period. The team’s exchanged 3 goals apiece in the 2nd period allowing the Arrows Express to take an 8 – 5 lead into the 3rd period. They then dominated the third period scoring 5 unanswered goals and shutting out the Warriors for the 13 – 5 final.

Danny Hill who’s playing rights the Arrows Express obtained back from Toronto at the trade deadline and Kent Squire-Hill led the way with 3 goals apiece. Kent also added 2 assists for a five point night. Shawn Evans did lead the Arrows Express offensively on the night with 2 goals & 5 assists for a 7 point game.

The Arrows Express defense played a solid game and Ben VanEvery was also solid in goal. They also had their power play working as the Arrows Express tallied six powerplay goals on the night.

Arrows Express other point getters were Craig Point with 2 goals & 3 assists, Cody Jamieson and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks had 1 goal & 2 assists each and Mitch Nanticoke had 1 goal & 1 assist. Keegan Hill picked up 3 assists and Holden Vyse had one assist on the night.

Game 2 in the best of 7 series will be played in Whitby on Tuesday July 31st at 8 PM and Game 3 will be played back at the ILA on Thursday Aug 2nd with game time set for 8 PM.
