Whitby Minor Warriors Feeling Right at Home at Laker Classic

Over this past weekend (June 1-3), the Ontario Lacrosse Association officially opened their box lacrosse tournament season.  One of the most popular, and historic is the “Peterborough Laker Classic” which is a favorite for many “A” and “B” teams.  After a somewhat grueling and tiresome five week field lacrosse season, many teams still make the trek to Peterborough to “see and play the competition”.

This year, the Whitby Warriors attended with at least one team in every division (Tyke – Midget), and must have certainly felt right at home.  The Warrior Tyke A, Novice A, Peewee A, and Midget A’s all won their respective Championships, while the Peewee and Bantam Girls teams both won their respective Championships as well.

The Novice B’s had a good weekend, unfortunately, they fell just short  losing in their Championship final.  The Bantam A’s lost in the semi-finals to the eventual winners in their group.

All in all it was a great start to the season for all of the Warrior teams.  My compliments and a job well done to the tournament organizers for dealing with the loss of one arena Friday night and for much of Saturday.  The Northcrest Arena floor conditions were unsafe which made officials scramble to re-schedule games to ensure they were played.  There were some delays and some late games, but everything worked out in the end.
