Northmen Take Home Opener

The new look Northmen put on an impressive display of speed and skill dropping the Peterborough Jr Lakers by a 9-1 margin. The home opener crowd of 300 + were on their feet early as Orangeville’s Matt Lyons, Jesse Gamble and rookie Brandon Ivey rang up 3 unanswered goals in the first 7 minutes.

The Lakers called a timeout at the 8:34 mark to re-group following a Jon Thomson marker on a turnover which bumped the margin 4-0.

At the 2:53 mark Peterborough’s Andy Hancock took objection to an Andrew Suitor high stick and the pair squared off in a lively tilt behind the Laker goal. In a surprising twist during the sorting of penalties, Peterborough sniper Kyle Clancy was ejected for playing with illegal equipment. The offending piece of equipment was said to be a necklace.

The second period scoring was all Northmen again with Matt MacLeod, Adam Jones and Jayson Card taking turns filling the net. The Lakers played a strong period but Nick Rose was solid in the Northmen net and the home side took a convincing 7-0 lead into the second intermission.  Peterborough came alive early in the third when Mack Obrien broke the Rose shutout on a 4 on 3 power play goal.

The game slowed down at the 6:25 mark when a questionable Laker check set off a four man melee resulting in the ejection of Orangeville’s Mike MacLeod. Shortly after, Adam Jones took the decision when he tangled with Laker Dustin Dunn.

The Northmen controlled the remainder of the game notching the score to a 9-1 final with Lyons and Matt MacLeod each picking up their second of the night.  The Northmen move to 3-0 on the season.
