Help Us Help Kids

Ok folks the time has come.  Bernice and I really had some grand ideas of what we wanted this Blog to become when we started.  At its roots, we wanted to provide information to all lacrosse lovers in an unbiased fashion across the province / country / world.  We wanted real stories, from real people.

We got to thinking a couple weeks back, when we started getting 500 visits a day that we could do more with this.  And it came to us (literally at the same time during discussion).

We are going to seek donations from organizations to help Sponsor a young boy or girl to play our great game.  We also want to have prizes to give to the kids for various contests / Minor Star of the Week, etc.

Believe me when I say, we do not make any money off of anything we do on this site (even though we would both love to be millionaires).  At the same time it only costs us our time (at this point).

We are not looking for individual donations, we want them from Club Teams, Leagues, Businesses, etc.  These donations will go toward sponsoring kids that may not otherwise be able to play, as well as to prizes.  In return, the league, organization, or business will then be given a section in our site acknowledging what they did and that they helped us help kids.

The wheels are already in motion, so stay tuned as we hope to report back very soon.

 Update: March 2 / 07

We have been able to sponsor 3 kids across the region with the support of Masters Lacrosse as well as the Business Community.  Moving forward we will continue to search for opportunities to enahnce the site for the kids by way of prize giveaways, etc.

Stay tuned…..

Is this strictly going to be for Whitby Minor kids or all kids in Ontario. Also what is the determining factor in who gets a donation to play.

No it is not strictly for Whitby kids. Bernice and I live in Whitby, so we are starting by sponsoring a player here and have all but secured a sponsorship from a local team. From there, we are looking to then sponsor a player in another center (we are trying to expand to Clarington, West Durham, Peterborough, Beaches). It is all going to depend on the number of sponsors and dollars we can raise as to how many we can do. I’d love to go all across Ontario if we could raise enough.

Having said this, any company or team that chooses to, can donate for a specific lacrosse organization anywhere in the Province and we will see that it gets there. Basically, you can tell us where you want your donation to go.

I’ve thought that the best way to ensure to all that it does, is by asking the President of the receiving association to verify to the donating party, their sponsorship donation amount was received with thanks.

What is the basis or requirements to receive this donation. How do you determine which child needs it more than another one.

We are not selecting the child; we are simply donating it to the Association, and letting them decide who to sponsor as long as it is used for a player to play. As to who gets it, it is not for me to decide, but I’m sure that the President in any minor Association would know of a family / player that needs it and therefore we will leave it to their judgement.

In the interests of the children and the privacy laws, etc. we are not naming anyone on our site, we are simply stating that we sponsored a child, and those that contributed to allow this all to happen.

I think thats an amazing Idea!! as long as it helps a kid play thats the important thing.
I’m sure there is more than 1 kid in each organization and maybe if more people showed this iniitive one day any kid that wants to play will have the means. Good Luck
