Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year To You All

(thanks to the public domain for the laxmas image here)

Yes, we are nearing the end of another year and 2011 proved to be another great one for lacrosse. Being as politically uncorrect as I can, I wanted to wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

This past few months have afforded me the opportunity to get some much needed rest (ya right) and I am certainly looking forward to the 2012 lacrosse season. I again will have a heavy workload coming up. The 2012 National Lacrosse League season is upon us, and in the Summer months Major Series Lacrosse, Junior lacrosse, and the Ontario Lacrosse Festival will no doubt keep this boy busy.

There will be a pretty exciting announcement in the coming weeks / months about LITG being involved with another high profile lacrosse event in 2012. Stay tuned.

In the next two months, LITG will be celebrating 5 years in the online world. In that time I have had a great number of people I’ve met, and in some cases worked with. I cannot reiterate enough, the quality of people in the game right from the grass roots, to the Pros, and their willingness to accomodate any story or article I have been working on.

I’ve also seen a number of other online lacrosse resources, web sites, and others pop up and begin to prosper, some of them taking a few LITG concepts and running with them. I guess imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery. Great for them, and great for lacrosse. I’ll get down off my soap box now :).

In 2012, I’d like to open up LITG to get more folks involved in writing lacrosse stories, articles, etc. One lesson I’ve learned in the past 5 years is you can go crazy trying to do it all yourself. So if you have the ability to put together a good sports story, or game recap, please drop me a line at gmark at lacrosseinsidethegame dot com, maybe send me something you’ve done, or even a fictitious article. We’ll chat from there.

To all of you lax crazed fans out there; I wish you all prosperity in 2012. And as always, stay safe, be good, and keep your stick in the air!

See ya’ at the rink.

Looking to get off the couch and get active this Fall?  If you are 18 or older, here is your chance!

LITG Co-Ed Sports was formed to create a fun environment for adults 18 years of age and older to enjoy an active, social night out through sport. Our mission is to provide a fun, safe environment for all adults to get some exercise, socialize, and meet new people. LITG Fall Co-Ed Adult Sports Registrations will be held on the following dates:

Play For Pink 8 Hour Marathon Lacrosse Game

to raise funds and awareness for Huntsville & District Minor Lacrosse & The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation

We are well into the planning phase for game day now!  Anyone who is interested in playing a little, or a lot, that day will need to pre-register so we will have an idea of how many players we are going to have.  I will also need to get an approximate time commitment from you as well.  This will hopefully allow the day to run smoothly and allow us to have at least 10 players available at all times.

The plan is to start the day off with the younger divisions and run thru to the adults to finish up the day.  Play is open to anyone regardless of abilities or experience.  It is meant for FUN.  If you have ever wanted to just try out Lacrosse, now is your chance!

So, the potential timelines will be:

Tyke 10 – 11a, Novice 11 – 12p, Peewee 12 – 1p, Bantam 1 – 2p, Midget 2 – 3p, Intermediate 3 – 4:30p

Jr. C & Sr. B to play throughout the day

Masters, Parents, Coaches, Trainers throughout the day

This is a guideline only!  Time is flexible and is meant to work with you not against.  If you and your player are only available during a certain time, we can work with that.  There will be at least a few adults on the floor playing throughout the day as well.  Our hope is to mix it up, but to allow the younger, smaller players the ability to have fun, safely, while playing alongside some of the adults and older players as well.

Also, instead of a registration fee for the event, we are asking that each participant collect pledges.

Pledge sheets are available for you on the website.  All of the pledge monies collected, will go directly to The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation  www.kellyshiresfoundation.org and any single donation over $20 will receive a tax receipt.  Each player is required to raise a minimum of $20There will be prizes awarded to the top earners

All of the Foundations monies are directed to breast cancer patients.  Please check out the website for more information on their great organization.

All New LITG Sportswear

Just in time for Christmas, I am very pleased to announce the launch of an all new line of cool LITG Sportswear.  We have new T-shirt designs for both men and women as well a couple of great new Black Yoga pant designs for ladies.  Orders can be emailed to me from the Sportswear Page.  For those not comfortable doing orders and paying online, I am in the process of getting a Visa merchant number to go along with cash, cheques, and Paypal.  Of course for those in the area, local pickup will be available.

You can see all of the new items as well as some of the original items by clicking the link at the top of the LITG home page, or simply by clicking the link at http://lacrosseinsidethegame.com/litg-sportswear/

The New LITG Chat Room

This has been a while in the making and I am very pleased to announce another place for people to talk lacrosse; the new LITG Chat Room.  By simply clicking the logo to the right or the logo in the top right corner of the site, you can enter into the Chat Room.  This room will be a little different than many others in that there will be no anonymous postings.  So called “Guests” to the forum can read and browse posts only, but will not have permissions to post new topics or reply to any current topics.

I did this in the interest of accounability.  Basically, if you want to say it, attach your name to it.  My intent is that this will hopefully “clean up” discussions, and get people talking more about the games and debating the hot issues, than it will in feeding the personal attacks on others and their views.  The forum will be moderated and it is my hope that it wil become an enjoyable lacrosse resource for all.

Anyone wanting to hlep out, by way of becoming a moderator, please let me know; gmark@lacrosseinsidethegame.com

Could I Cover The Olympics? Maybe With Your Help

Sorry for this little bit of shameless self promotion.

The Globe and Mail (Toronto) has a contest called the Journalism Dream Contest. They are encouraging people to submit a written article, or a picture, for a chance to be selected to attend and cover the Olympics in Vancouver.

I have entered a condensed version of an article about the brawl in this year’s Mann Cup from BC. The hope is that I can get enough votes to be considered by the judges as a finalist and then they decide from the top vote getters.

The link to my story is below, and you can vote once every day until November 22nd. It does require you to register, but if you can take the few minutes to do so and try to vote (every day), who knows, I might just be able to cover the Olympics in 2010. Here is the link…

Thanks everyone.

Truly Lacrosse Cares – 2009 Marathon Game

The spirit of lacrosse will be put to the test on Friday April 24, and Saturday April 25, 2009, when a group of lacrosse players will play in the longest indoor lacrosse game ever at 30 hours. The game will take place in Whitby, Ontario Canada at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex. It will begin at 12:00pm on Friday and will finish at 6:00pm on Saturday.

Presented by members of Lacrosse Inside The Game, the group comprised mainly of citizens of Whitby, Oshawa, and surrounding towns will organize and play in the marathon game, with all of the proceeds benefitting the Children’s Wish Foundation. Game participants and volunteers are welcome from all across Ontario. This game is in response to the challenge put forth in June 2008 by the Aurora Masters Lacrosse Association, with their DOVE (Determined to Oppose Violence Everywhere) effort.

The Children’s Wish Foundation was formed in 1983, on the kitchen table of an inspired and committed volunteer, named Laura Cole, and has blossomed into a national organization with chapters in every province in Canada. From humble beginnings granting fewer than 20 wishes a year The Foundation has established the capacity to fulfill upwards of 800 wishes annually.

The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada grant wishes to children with high-risk life-threatening illnesses, and have never denied an eligible child a wish, having fulfilled some of the most complex wishes imaginable.

“We are delighted to be the recipients of the generosity of this spectacular event”, said Sandra Hancox; Director of the Children’s Wish Ontario Chapter. “We look forward to working with these great volunteers to make as many wishes come true as possible”.

Lacrosse Inside The Game (LITG) is an organization, founded in 2006 aimed at promoting Canada’s National Sport. LITG runs a Co-Ed Masters Adult Lacrosse League each year in Whitby. Proceeds from the league are used to sponsor children to play lacrosse in the Durham Region area.

“I have always truly believed in helping our youth and young children”, said Gary Mark, LITG Founder. “But to be able to assist the Children’s Wish, in all of the incredible work that they do for children, I know will be something very special for all of the great lacrosse people in this area.”

The game will also feature a Legends Lacrosse Game featuring players from the Brooklin Redmen and the Peterborough Lakers. There are even plans to include members of the National Lacrosse League playing in the event.

Information on the event will be constantly updated at www.lacrosseinsidethegame.com,as well as http://tlclax.wordpress.com. Player registrations, sponsorship forms, and more are available on this site under the Forms link at the top of this page.
