Powell’s Nine-Point Night Powers Blazers Past Knighthawks For 16-7 Win

(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Knighthawks were defeated by the Boston Blazers 16-7 tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. Tonight’s game marked the second consecutive matchup between the two teams, with Rochester winning the last 11-10 in an overtime bout. With the loss, Rochester drops to 2-2, while Boston moves to an even 3-3 on the season.

Rookie sensation Cody Jamieson led Rochester with four goals, while captain Shawn Williams added four points (1+3) in front of a crowd of 4,945. Carthage, NY native and former Knighthawk Casey Powell led Boston with nine points (4+5) and was supported by Kevin Buchanan’s eight points (2+6) and Josh Sanderson’s six assists. Rochester goaltenders Matt Vinc and Aaron Bold both saw time in net, with Vinc making 29 saves and Bold stopping eight.

Boston built a comfortable 3-0 lead to start the game with goals coming from Ryan Dilks and Nick Cotter. Dilks first found the net after collecting a loose ball at the midline and finishing a breakaway opportunity.

Just 24 seconds later, Cotter trickled a shot past Rochester goaltender Vinc. Dilks then recorded his second of the night after grabbing a Casey Powell rebound and tossing it past Vinc. The tally at 5:54 was also assisted by Sanderson.

Current Rookie of the Week Jamieson scored Rochester’s only goal of the first quarter, rifling a long shot past Blazers netminder Anthony Cosmo. The power-play goal was assisted by Gary Gait.
Scoring in the first was capped off by Boston’s Dan Dawson, who gave the Blazer’s a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes.

It didn’t take long for Dilks to complete his hat trick, capitalizing on the transition just 46 seconds into the second quarter. The defenseman was setup by Casey Powell and Sanderson.
The Powell brothers combined for Boston’s next goal, after Casey made a diving effort to push a rebound by Ryan into the net. Williams then scored for Rochester, cutting the Boston lead to 6-2.
However, consecutive goals from Casey Powell and Dawson would chase Vinc from the Knighthawk net just 20 minutes into the game, prompting Knigththawks Head Coach Mike Hasen to replace the reigning NLL Goaltender of the Year with Bold.

Bold settled into the game quickly, getting credited with an assist on a Pat McCready goal at the 9:05 mark. Jamieson then added his second of the night to make the score 8-4.
However, Boston closed out the half with three unanswered goals by Dawson, Kevin Buchanan and Ryan Powell, respectively. Buchanan and Powell’s goals were both scored on the power-play.
Boston kept up the pace in the second half, with Casey Powell adding his third of the night on the power-play. The hat-trick goal was assisted by Buchanan and Ryan Powell.
After the Powell goal, Vinc returned to the Rochester net only to have Dawson score his forth and give the Blazers a 13-4 advantage.

Jamieson responded by finishing off his own hat trick, muscling a shot past Cosmo. The power-play goal came off feeds from Craig Point and Williams. Evans followed with a goal of his own, picking out the top corner for his first goal of the night.

However, the two goals were quickly cancelled out, as Buchanan and Casey Powell each added another tally for Boston. Cotter also added another goal for the Blazers to end the scoring in the third.
Jamieson would go on to add another goal in the final quarter for his fourth of the night. Cosmo would finish the evening with 35 saves.
