Grant Powers K-Hawks to .500, Swarm Lose Their First

The Calgary Roughnecks were in Rochester on Saturday night to take on the Knighthawks.  It appeared as though it was going to be a very long night for the Riggers, as Rochester came out flying, holding leads of 5-2 after a quarter, and 8-4 at the half.  But Calgary would not lie down and kept battling back each time it appeared Rochester was about to cruise to a win.  In the end Rochester was too much and came out on top 15-12.  With the win. the Knighthawks move to three wins and three losses, while Calgary goes to two wins and four losses.

This was my B2 selection of the night and John Grant Jr. was simply amazing yet again, taking home game MVP honors with four goals and six assists.  His fourth goal was a “salute” of sorts to the legend Gary Gait.  As he was somewhat forced to the outside and behind the Calgary net, Grant lept into the air, deposited the ball to the short side (while still in the air behind the net), and left the crowd, and myself asking how……

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bandits returned home tonight, fresh off of a loss in Toronto last night to play the previously undefeated Minnesota Swarm.  Buffalo was firing on all cylinders, with the usual suspects (Tavares, Steenhuis, Vyse, Bomberry, Powless) all figuring in on the scoring.  Of course, we’ve seen the same shared scoring all season from the Swarm and tonight was no different (Culp, Secore, Pollock, Sharp, Ward).  The Bandits got a much needed win to move to four wins and four losses, handing Minnesota their first defeat of 2008, to go along with six wins.  Final score was 16-14.

In the final game on the night, New York went into Chicago and built up a 10-1 lead at half time.  Matt Vinc was the recipient of an illegal equipment call at the half and appears to have been ejected from the game (unconfirmed as I did not see this game).  Chicago took advantage of the goaltending change, but still came up short, in the end losing 14-9.  Powell, Maddalena, Mundorf and Hall all had big nights for the Titans while Derks, Giles, Plunkett and Clark figured in most of the Shamrox scores.    The win moves New York to three wins and four losses, while Chicago drops to one win and four losses.
