Hello Lacrosse fans!
Gary and I are very pleased with your feedback and we thank you for your support. This site is for all of us. Our goal is to provide the type of content that isn’t available anywhere else. This includes expanding our reach into as many communities as possible. We want to invite all communities to use this blog as your platform. Your voice.
Let us hear what is happening in your communities! Send us pictures, videos, opinions and most importantly–your stories! Lacrosse is more than a sport as we’ve seen through such stories as Kugluktuk’s. So please share.
My story… I started playing lacrosse 3 years ago. My son, 5 at the time, was already playing and you could say he was my inspiration. I wanted to understand how he felt and share in the experience. If you’d asked me 4 years ago whether I’d ever consider playing the game I would have told you ‘not in a million years’! After-all, I’d never really played a team sport outside of equestrian horsing events, and felt quite out of shape. The chances were pretty unlikely! How would I step past the fear of embarrassing myself. And, I’m a mom… do mom’s do this sort of thing?
Well, I did do it. I joined the DWLL and ended up playing full-contact because the Masters league was full. I even ventured onto the Blue Knights Sr. Field Team last year. (I do prefer box). I was the oldest rookie at 36 to play the game. Playing against the teenagers that were trying out for the Canadian Team was rather challenging. Funny though, I was able to step up.
I also discovered that I can appreciate the challenges that our kids face when they’re on the floor. I know how the equipment can slide up and bug your throat at times, how sprint running in 37 degrees, inside a smothering arena can all be forgotten when you get that breakaway chance. I know how it feels to have to push myself to play harder when I’m tired and feel as though I can’t go any further. I know the disappointment of defeat when your down 5 -0 in the first five minutes… and the pride that comes when the team manages to turn it around. I get the shivers of excitement when I know I’m going to play a game. The best part, is when my son and I look at each with knowing eyes and can talk ’shop’ about the game we both love.
I encourage everyone to try it!
