It seems like the last 10 or so year’s hockey has dominated almost every young persons life in Southern Ontario, and specifically in our area (GTA). It is somewhat annoying that it has become a sport that starts in August and ends in May (maybe). In many cases, kids are unable to play another sport because it “interferes with hockey”. Too often the other sport(s) take the back seat and are hopefully accommodating or the kids only play one sport (and we all know what sport is the sport of choice). Don’t get me wrong, I love hockey. But when does it stop. Oh it doesn’t?
Seeing the number of kids last night at a “fall field lacrosse” program in Clarington was very encouraging. Spread across two divisions, there were close to if not over 60 kids signed up to play field lacrosse into October. Hey if hockey can go almost all year, why not lacrosse creeping into a little hockey time?
Anyway, first games are this coming Sunday August 27, at Bowmanville High School.
