I know there are going to be many comments about Team Ontario at the Festival. How could neither of the two teams (Peewee and Bantam) not make the finals? Well after seeing almost the entire week of lacrosse I will say that it was not for a lack of effort from the Ontario boys. Rather, I would say that the other provinces have improved their game immensely. I recall in year 1 of this National Championship, Team Ontario cruised (it was only Peewee the first year), although the final against BC was close. It would appear to me that all of the other provinces have stepped up their game, and Ontario simply does not dominate like it did 2 years ago.
Cheering for Ontario it was a little disheartening to not see our boys in either final, but as a lacrosse fan, I was wowed by the quality of games I saw all week. I also had my son at the Bantam final and we had a fabulous time (see my first post).
One other thing; I only caught the last period and overtime of the bronze medal Bantam game between Ontario and Alberta. It was an exciting finish as well with Ontario winning 7-5 in overtime. One thing that was a true sign of what this game should be happened at the completion of the game. After both teams gathered at their respective nets for team pictures, the Alberta coach invited the Ontario team and staff down to their net, and a few group pictures were taken. Classy, very classy!
